Frequently asked questions
The questions guests ask most before they book. Is yours not here? Ask Ernest on WhatsApp.
How do I book a tour or transfer?
Send Ernest a message on WhatsApp with your dates, where you are staying and what you would like to do. He replies with a plan and a price. You can also use the trip planner, which writes the message for you.
Do I pay per person or per car?
Day tours, transfers and private trips are priced per car, so the price is the same for one guest or a full car. Fast boat tickets and some activities are priced per person.
What is included in a day tour?
Your own air-conditioned car, Ernest as your English-speaking driver, pickup and drop-off at your hotel, petrol and parking. Entrance tickets, meals and activities are paid separately, and Ernest tells you the costs before you go.
How long is a full day?
A full day is about 10 hours and a half day about 5 hours. Longer days, such as sunrise trips or tours to Lovina and Amed, are possible: just ask.
Can we change the plan during the day?
Yes. It is your car and your day. Stay longer where you like it, skip what you don't, or ask Ernest for a tip on the way.
Where can Ernest pick us up?
Anywhere in Bali: your hotel or villa, the airport or the harbour. Ernest lives near Uluwatu, so pickups in Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Kuta and Seminyak are quick to arrange.
How many people fit in the car?
Ernest drives a 7-seat Toyota Avanza. Tell him how many people and suitcases you have, and he makes sure everyone travels comfortably.
Can you arrange a child seat?
Ask Ernest when you book and tell him the age of your children.
Do we need to tip?
Tipping is not required in Bali, but it is appreciated if you enjoyed your day.
Can Ernest organise trips outside Bali?
Yes. Ernest organises trips to Lombok and the Gili Islands, Komodo and Flores, where he grew up, and Java. See Beyond Bali and the Flores overland trip.
Can children join the ATV ride, rafting or the Bali swing?
Often, yes, but every operator has its own age and height limits. On the ATV, younger children usually ride as a passenger with a parent. Tell Ernest the ages of your children and he books an activity that suits your family.
What should we wear for ATV, rafting and the swing?
Clothes that can get wet and muddy, shoes that stay on your feet (no flip-flops) and a change of clothes for the way back. Helmets, life jackets and harnesses come from the operator.
What should we wear to temples?
Cover your shoulders and knees. At most temples a sarong and sash are required; they are usually available to borrow or rent at the entrance.
How far in advance should we book?
For airport pickups and day tours a few days ahead is usually fine. For multi-day trips, sunrise tours and the busy months of July, August and December, book as early as you can.
