Nusa Penida is wilder and hillier than Bali. Its roads are narrow and steep, so on the island a trusted local driver from Ernest's network takes over.
Kelingking Beach
The cliff shaped like a dinosaur head, with a white beach far below. The view from the top is the photo everyone knows; the path down is steep and for fit walkers only.
Broken Beach
A natural arch over a round bay where the sea flows in under the rock.
Angel's Billabong
A rock pool on the edge of the ocean, right next to Broken Beach. Only swim when the sea is calm.
Crystal Bay
A sheltered bay with clear water, good for snorkelling and a late lunch.
Manta Point
A cleaning station off the south coast where reef manta rays come in to be cleaned by small fish. Snorkellers often see them right below the boat, but it depends on the sea.
Gamat Bay
A calm bay with coral gardens and lots of colourful fish, the second stop of most snorkelling trips.
East coast option
Diamond Beach, Atuh Beach and the Thousand Islands viewpoint, for a second visit or a night on the island.
Nusa Lembongan
The smaller, calmer neighbour: mangroves, Dream Beach, Devil's Tear and the yellow bridge to Nusa Ceningan.
